Karowara Pty Ltd is a family owned business operating across 4 properties in the Naracoorte and Victorian border region. The Assistant Farm Manager position offers a diverse role, based on a 908 ha property at Poolaijelo in Victoria, just 38 km southeast of Naracoorte and 32km from the Coonawarra wine region.
The Role
The Assistant Farm Manager is a full-time position. The candidate will be experienced working with sheep and cattle, with general cropping experience an advantage. This role supports our Farm Operations Manager in conjunction with the rest of our farm team. The Assistant Farm Manager will be responsible for routine farm operations, including pasture maintenance and livestock husbandry (black Angus cattle and White Suffolk/Merino sheep), feeding livestock and monitoring/maintaining stock water. Due to the location of the properties, you will be required to work autonomously at times, but will be flexible in offering support to other team members when needed across the 4 properties (2,516Ha).
Each property utilises side-by-sides, John Deere tractors, Bromar feed trailers and Speed Tillers etc, along with significant infrastructure including covered sheep yards and new cattle yards. Centre Pivots operate on one of the properties providing further learning opportunities.
The Offer
An industry-competitive salary, dependent upon experience, will be offered to the successful candidate. On-farm accommodation comprises a tidy 4-bedroom home surrounded by an established garden with lake views, with local school buses passing by the property gates. In addition to your salary, a single cab farm utility with a fuel allowance for local use is provided, with electricity, telephone and working dog allowances also included in the package.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and skilled working with both sheep and cattle. They will have a passion for agriculture and will possess:
- A current Australian Drivers Licence. MR Truck Licence an advantage
- Livestock husbandry, handling and record keeping experience with sheep and cattle
- Basic computer skills (training available for use of Agriwebb and Farmbot systems)
- An honest & positive attitude, a good work ethic, follows instructions & works well as part of a team
- A willingness to learn and progress their career with our business
- Own working dogs would be highly desirable
