Tonkin Farming is a family owned farming and grazing operation spanning several properties in the Mungindi area. We are searching for a feedlot operator for our feedlot Barwon River Beef to be trained in all aspects of feedlot operations.
The feedlot operator position at Barwon River Beef is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Tonkin Farming team. Experience is desirable but not essential as the successful applicant will receive training in all aspects of feedlotting. The role of the feedlot operator involves managing the day-to-day operations of our cattle feedlot, including livestock care, feeding and facility maintenance.
Livestock Management:
- Feeding and Watering: Ensuring cattle receive appropriate feed rations and fresh water.
- Health Monitoring: Regularly observing cattle for signs of illness or injury and administering necessary treatments.
- Pen Movements: Managing the movement of cattle between pens as needed.
- Induction and Drafting: Overseeing the intake and sorting of cattle.
- Disease Control: Implementing and maintaining biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
Operational Tasks:
- Machinery Operation: Utilizing machinery for tasks such as feeding and general maintenance.
- Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance and repairs on machinery as greasing and replacing oils.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensuring the feedlot facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Truck Driving: Operating trucks for transporting feed, livestock, or other materials.
- General Farm Duties: Assisting with other tasks as needed, which may include fencing, cleaning, and other general farm duties.
Other Responsibilities:
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of feedlot operations, including animal health and feeding data.
- Communication: Communicating with other team members, including supervisors, maintenance staff, and other feedlot personnel.
- Teamwork: Working effectively as part of a team to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the feedlot.
- Safety: Adhering to all relevant safety procedures and protocols.
The roster is 10 days on 4 days off roster.
Above award hourly rates offered.
